Con el objetivo de ver a Honduras convertida en un centro mundial de congresos, ferias y exposiciones de primer nivel, se llevó a cabo en la ciudad de San Pedro Sula la XXIX convención de la Federación de entidades de organizaciones de Congresos y Afines de América Latina, Cocal.
Honduras Tips, la guía oficial de turismo en el país, se hizo presente en este importante evento que reunió a más de 28 especialistas de Estados Unidos, Canadá y Latinoamérica.
De igual forma, empresas organizadoras de eventos nacionales e internacionales expusieron sus servicios durante esta importante convención realizada desde el 13 hasta el 16 de marzo en el Centro Social Hondureño árabe.
Seguir vendiendo a San Pedro Sula como el sitio número uno en Centroamérica para hacer turismo de convenciones, es la meta de la secretaría de turismo. “Con la XXIX reunión de la Cocal, la capital industrial como sede de este evento, muestra la imagen positiva del país”, afirma Nelly Jeréz, ministra de Turismo.
Siendo el evento más importante del rubro, Cocal puso en práctica las experiencias de los expertos para levantar el turismo de reuniones en esta zona y generar más empleos para el año 2013.
Henning Kretschmer, presidente de la cámara de turismo de San Pedro Sula dijo que estas conferencias han motivado aun más a los organizadores de eventos a profesionalizar este subsector del turismo en la ciudad. “Los participantes de este foro están analizando dentro de sus proveedores a San Pedro Sula como una nueva y gran opción para el turismo de grandes reuniones dentro de Latinoamérica”, sostuvo la venezolana Bertha García, presidente de Cocal.
El turismo de congresos, eventos y viajes de incentivos es considerado una de las especialidades más estables dentro del mercado internacional del recreo y los viajes, pese a la crisis económica mundial.
Tales criterios dejan a COCAL 2012 como un foro de debate que puede abrir muchos caminos y favorecer sobre todo el desarrollo de Latinoamérica.

In order to see Honduras become a global center for congresses, fairs and first class exhibitions, the city of San Pedro Sula hosted the XXIX convention of the Federation of Latin American Congress Organizing Entities and Related Activities , Cocal.
Honduras Tips, the official tour guide in the country, was present at this important event that brought together over 28 specialists from the U.S., Canada and Latin America. Similarly, companies that organize national and international events presented their services during this important convention held from 13th to 16thof March in the Centro Social Hondureño Arabe.
The goal of the secretariat of tourism is to continue promoting San Pedro Sula as the number one site for convention tourism in Central America. «Having the industrial capital to host the XXIX meeting of the Cocal, displays the positive image of the country,» says Nelly Jeréz, Minister of Tourism.
Henning Kretschmer, president of the Chamber of Tourism of San Pedro Sula said that these conferences have further motivated the event planners to professionalize this subsector of tourism in the city. «The participants of this forum are viewing San Pedro Sula as a great new option for large gatherings of business tourism in Latin America,» said the Venezuelan Bertha Garcia, president of Cocal.
Congress tourism, events and incentive travel is considered one of the more stable specialties within the international market of leisure and travel, despite the global economic crisis.
These criteria turned COCAL 2012 into a forum for discussion that can open several doors and above all encourage the development of Latin America.
